El compositor Joseph Killa Mackenzie escribio esta canción en recuerdo de su bisabuelo un sargento de los Seaforth Highlanders muerto en combate.
la canción os sonara por una película de Mel Gibson "Cuando eramos jovenes y soldados".

No encuentro una versión más actual (si meteis en youtube el título "Sgt. Mackenzie" y veis el primer vídeo (que es sobre la guerra del vietnam) la segunda canción que sale es esta y en una versión menos folk (como sale en la película que dice Hasting)
